Eighteenth-century British prelate Edmund Keene, Bishop of Ely, was a man of style as well as of the cloth, constructing palaces and planting gardens with arguably as much zeal as he brought to saving souls. Considering his pursuit of the finer things, the cleric would no doubt be delighted to learn that the esteemed antiques dealer Mallett has left its longtime London digs on New Bond Street and moved to Ely House, the eminently chic Mayfair mansion Keene commissioned in the 1770s. Conceived by neoclassical architect Robert Taylor and located on an exceptionally tony thoroughfare, the building is a Georgian gem, from its macho rusticated base to its exhilarating barrel-vaulted entrance hall. Now the rooms shelter an enticing array of choice pieces, whether one’s taste leans in the direction of the Regency furniture for which Mallett, founded in 1865, is so well known or toward newer works, such as the postwar photography of famed Paris Match lensman Willy Rizzo. 37 Dover Street, 011-44-20-7499-7411, mallettantiques.com
