Martin Ephson and Tom Helme recently debuted Fermoie, a textile company that is the culmination of an idea the two have shared since the early days of their partnership. (The pair were former co-owners of the celebrated British paint-and-wallpaper company Farrow & Ball, which they sold six years ago.) Fermoie offers an elegant assortment of interior fabrics in a wide variety of possibilities: 140 rich colorways designed within families of reds, greens, blues, yellows, and neutrals. The various ticking stripes, chevrons, and herringbone prints—all with a distinctly British feel and quality—are not so unfamiliar to those enamored by Farrow & Ball’s exquisite hand-painted wallpapers.

Both the design and creation of all Fermoie’s fabrics take place at the company’s headquarters in Marlborough, England (quite the rarity in today’s world of digital printing). That’s because Ephson and Helme recognized the demand for quality fabrics made quickly. As Ephson explains, “High-end brands have notoriously long lead times, yet we’ve always considered service to be paramount. If you want it, you probably want it now!” Fermoie’s fabrics can be delivered in just five days.

With new designs to launch next year, as well as a line of lampshades and cushions, the firm’s creative process is about to expand. One thing is certain to remain the same, though: While meeting the demands of an impatient and modern world, Fermoie will continue to remain true to its artisanal British heritage.
