Kieninger Clocks – Masterpieces of German clock craft
In the year 2012 the Kieninger Clock Factory was celebrating its 100th anniversary.
Kieninger was founded in 1912 in the Black Forest by Joseph Kieninger (1872-1936) and therefore is the eldest existing manufacturer of mechanical
clock movements for grandfather-, wall- and mantel clocks in the world.
Since 1917 the company has been located in Aldingen, a charming village just between Black Forest and ‘Schwäbische Alb’.
Today, the company occupies a 54.000 square foot manufacturing facility, newly constructed in 1991 and employs about 50 dedicated and highly skilled workers and staff. In 1993, Kieninger became part of the Howard Miller Group (USA), the largest manufacturer of grandfather clocks in the world.
From its very beginning Kieninger has stayed with its traditional concept – the manufacture of technically advanced, high-quality mechanical movements and clocks.
This has proved successful and it is to no surprise, that today Kieninger is known for its craftsmanship and only the highest-quality products. Many Kieninger clocks are noted among the classics of the industry. With our 2018/2019 line of selected, fine mechanical grandfather-, wall- and mantel clocks we offer unique and individually designed timepieces of the highest quality.
The Movements
Kieninger clock movements satisfy highest demands and captivate with their high level of craftsmanship and reliability. State of the art technology combined with selected, finest materials and the experience of one century in crafting mechanical clock movements provide this guarantee. In doing so Kieninger movements offer a multitude of partially patented technical specialties:
All movements include one of our patented automatic night shut-off features between 10.00 PM and 7.15 AM (4/4 hour movements) or 10.00 PM and 7.00 AM (1/2 hour movements).
Kieninger movements offer Kieniramic® Graham anchor escapement and our patented automatic beat adjustment, some small mantel clocks feature a Swiss escapement.
The correct second indication as used in almost all our clocks is possible with another patented Kieninger design.
Kieninger movements feature many stainless steel components and all pinions are finished in a special burnishing process developed by Kieninger.
Most cable and some chain movements are fitted with maintaining power, providing continuous power while the movement is wound.
All cable movements with 1/4-chime have separate chime-off functions for melody and hour chime.
Cable movements of the H, K, M and N-series have special winding stops, limiting the drop and winding range of the weights.
All key-wind movements feature an exclusive anti-snap-back winding mechanism.
Some floor clocks can be fitted with a KSU triple chime movement with patented automatic chime sequencing or our KSU-16-rod triple chime movement, another innovative Kieninger first in the clock industry, giving the choice of the melodies “Westminster-Ave Maria-Ode to joy” every hour.
HTU Kieninger Tubular Chime Grandfather Clock Movement 1/4 cable movement with triple chime (Westminster, St. Michael and Whittington) on 9 tubes, diamond milled plate edges, 24 bronze bushings and 12 brass set genuine rubies (fly wheel, escapement and anchor pivots), automatic beat adjustment, maintaining power, true second and automatic night time shut-off.
