In early November, hype beasts, skaters, sneakerheads and Balenciaga-clad fashion fanatics gathered in Long Beach, Calif., for the second annual ComplexCon, a street wear market and hip-hop convention. Celebrities including Jaden Smith and Pharrell, along with the designers Virgil Abloh and John Elliott, were spotted shopping and catching up with stylish friends. Naturally, the 50,000 or so attendees dressed to be noticed.

What are you wearing?
This is the Supreme cheetah-print jacket, I just copped this here. I got my Ksubi denim on, my rare Supreme Nikes Air Force 1 highs.
And the bag?
A Chinatown bootleg Supreme pouch.
Why did you get the fake one?
Items are only worth what a fool will pay for them. To me this is just as good as the vinyl at Louis Vuitton in Paris. It’s like a play on what’s real and fake, because obviously I’m wearing a lot of real stuff.
Nice grills.
These are 14 karat. I had 10, but I lost some before I came out here.
What brings you here?
I couldn’t miss a limited-drop situation.
Occupation Founder of the Stylers Panel, a network for fashion professionals
Age 27
What brings you here?
Today’s objective is to meet 20 new people. I’ve been in New York all summer, so I’m back in L.A. and I want to reshow my face and make some connections.
Tell me about your outfit.
I wanted to be comfortable. I had heels on yesterday and by 5 o’clock, I was like, no more. So today I wanted to be more chill but cute and sexy.
And the headband?
The Gucci headband, we can’t forget about that.
I love your purple lipstick. Are you big into makeup?
I like to keep it very simple — foundation and glitter for your cheekbones. But today I wanted to put on some lipstick to do something different.
Occupation Football player
Age 31
What was your fashion game plan today?
I wanted to keep it simple, with a splash of energy. So I went with this custom vintage jean jacket by v2Benley.
You’ve got some serious bling.
I always wear jewelry that means something to me. The angel wings are for my grandmother that passed away and my grandfather. The K is for my daughter, Kennedy. The III is for myself, Odell Beckham and Sterling Shepard. We all wore the No. 3 in college, so we all got one together.
Why did you come?
So everyone understands that this is for the culture. This is for the kids. And I embody part of that culture. I want to show the kids this is cool and this is how we do it.
Style has become an important part of your persona these days.
Definitely. Every time I leave the house, I want to look good, even if it’s basketball shorts and a T-shirt.
Occupation Student
Age 23
Tell me about your outfit
This is a Supreme for Playboy top, Daniel Patrick pants and Balenciaga sneakers.
When did you buy your first Supreme item?
When I came to the U.S., like three years ago. I knew about it before I moved, but wasn’t a fan. I would line up for it for my ex-boyfriend.
What made you want to come to ComplexCon?
I came last year and it’s not as crazy this year, but you can get a lot of exclusive stuff. This year I got the V.I.P. ticket and it’s much easier.
Tell me about your bracelets
They’re Cartier and Tiffany. My boyfriend just gave me one as a birthday gift. And my necklace is Bulgari.
Fancy.

Why is pink your favorite color?
Do you know the cartoon “The Pink Panther”? It’s the best.
When did you start wearing all pink?
Four years ago.
So is your closet just all pink?
Ninety percent of it.
Where are your pants from?
A vintage shop in Paris. My shoes are Converse. This cardigan is Lacoste, and the shirt is from Pigalle.
Is the watch rose gold?
Yeah.
So everything is pink.
Yeah. Even the glasses have rose-tinted lenses.
Occupation Brand ambassador for Devambez, a French publishing and stationery company
Age 28
Do you have a Chanel obsession?
I do. I made this shirt, it’s a vintage Marilyn Manson T-shirt that I screen-printed. One of my best friends who worked for Chanel got me this bag, and green is my favorite color. But the pants are Dickies.
What do you like about Chanel? It’s traditionally a women’s brand.
That’s what I like about it. Some people are afraid to wear it, but it’s so iconic and I’ve always loved it. For me it’s about being confident and wearing what you love. I mean, it’s just a green bag. I love their trainers and I think that Karl Lagerfeld is very special.
I like your rings, too.
This one I made with this amazing jeweler who used to be based in the East Village, Greg Wolff. This is just Chrome Hearts. And the necklaces, this is Cartier and a black diamond pendant. And my best friend brought this back from Thailand, it’s jade. It’s a bunch of memories.
Occupation Creative director for Scrapes & Gravel
Age 32
Tell me about this cardigan and turtleneck.
I do a lot of vintage shopping, and as a designer I design a lot of my clothes. These pants are samples I made, and the cardigan I got secondhand on Melrose. The turtleneck I found at Macy’s.
So you don’t care about designer clothing.
It’s all about a vibe and taste level. Detail is very important, color palettes are very important. You probably won’t see a lot of people wearing turtlenecks out here, but it’s fall.
It’s very chic.
I like doing things like wearing tennis shoes with a more formal look. Designing isn’t just about drawing and sketching.
What was your goal getting dressed this morning?
I wanted to look like me. I wanted to express myself and look dope.
Occupation Real estate sales
Age 24
Did I hear you say you wore this to church?
Yes.
Wow, you must have a very relaxed church.
Wearing bras is my thing.
I like the jacket.
I made it. It literally cost $50. It’s my mom’s old blanket and I made it into a little coat. And everything else is Zara, but the Gucci belt and the Chucks.
Where’d you get your necklace?
It’s from my mom.
Did you wear it to church?
Yeah, I wanted to be a good girl.
Age 39
Occupation D.J. and designer for Dim Mak
Are you wearing all Dim Mak?
Yeah, this is a custom tee. I sewed this old Minor Threat on a Dim Mak T-shirt. And these are Dim Mak pants, and I took a Kurt Cobain shirt and patched it over my knee. And these are Asics, the Ronnie Feig Kith ones.
Love the sunglasses.
These are actually my videographer’s. They’re Retrosuperfuture.
Why are you here today?
Are you kidding? This is one of the most important places for me to be. It’s a free marketplace where all the people who care about our brand come. There’s nowhere else I’d rather be.
What’s driving street wear now?
You want to make things that people don’t have yet, that brings something dynamic to the market. People want something surprising. They want the message, the story. It’s not just about a cool graphic, it’s the story behind it.
Occupation Artist
Age 23
You may be the only guy here wearing tailoring.
I just had to do what feels right for me. I really wanted to wear these shoes, and to make them work I needed to wear these pants.
Where is everything from?
The shoes are Adidas and I got the pants in Japan, but everything else is vintage.
So what made you want to buy a ticket and come?
To meet up with friends, continue to work. As an artist, it’s inspiring but also productive from a sensible standpoint, like meeting people.
And where’s your hat from?
It’s my dad’s hat.
Did he give it to you?
No, I stole it, but he understands.
