At the STP 500 this year last month, there were 2 winners of the annual 500-lap Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series stock car race held at the 0.526-mile (0.847 km) Martinsville Speedway in Ridgeway, Virginia. Aside from Brad Keselowski, who won the STP 500 race after emerging as 1 of the 2 dominant cars in the final third of the 500-lap race, a lucky ticketholder was also chosen at random to take home one of the same model Ridgeway grandfather clock – the Ridgeway Martinsville Grandfather Clock – as the winner of the race. The Martinsville model of Ridgeway Grandfather Clocks has also been one as a prize by the likes of Dale Earnhardt Sr., Jeff Gordon, Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt Jr. among others.
This year the lucky ticketholder was Gene Martin, who attended the NASCAR race and had his ticket therefore automatically entered to be eligible to win one of the same Martinsville Ridgeway Grandfather Clocks that was taken home by the winner of the race, Brad Keselowski. It was Keselowski’s second victory of 2017, making him the first repeat winner of the season.

Martin was quoted by Speedway Digest as saying he was “in shock”. Even as an avid collector of NASCAR memorabilia, Mr. Martin stated it was now “number one” in his collection. Speedway Digest even quoted Gene Martin as saying his new Ridgeway Martinsville Grandfather Clock would be #1 in his collection “ahead of my Dale Earnhardt, Richard Petty, Jimmie Johnson and Mark Martin autographs.”
Brad Keselowski passed Kyle Busch late in a thrilling STP 500, then outran his rival to win the April Monster Energy Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway.
Longtime sponsor GlaxoSmithKline returned as race sponsor.
Ridgeway Grandfather Clocks company, nowadays part of Howard Miller Clocks, has long participated in NASCAR with the Ridgeway Martinsville Grandfather Clock being the sought after prize of the race’s winner.
