Tucked within the old walled city of Cartagena, the increasingly buzzy travel destination on Colombia’s Caribbean coast, is the picturesque new boutique hotel Casa San Agustín. Comprising three Spanish Colonial buildings, the property was transformed by South Carolina designer Kelley McRorie to feel like a personal residence, with its 22 rooms and eight suites all featuring an eclectic array of antique and custom-made furnishings. Architectural details have been carefully preserved, most noticeably in the courtyard, where the pool is situated beneath the remnants of a historic aqueduct. One definitive highlight is the restaurant, Alma, where chef Hector Aguilar Valle serves such regional classics as dry-aged beef (cured on-site) and conch croquettes.
