And at least one specialist goes even further: “Old Gucci shoe box, great! We can turn that into an accessories box.”
Lisa Adams is convinced that the secret to calming the chaos of life begins each morning in her favorite room, the closet. “Every house, big or small, has one,” she said, “and everyone has a certain way they want their stuff.”
Since establishing her company, L.A. Closet Design, in 2007, Ms. Adams, 50, has designed a variety of storage options for customers — and some particular spots for their timepieces.
“Watch and jewelry collections are so personal that figuring out how to store them, how to showcase them and how to keep them safe is very personal,” she said.
Ms. Adams has created shallow, suede-lined drawers with custom partitions to hold watches, commissioned bespoke watch pillows and found biometric locks for clients who wanted to keep their watches in one safe place at home. For one client, she planned a marble display cabinet with seven built-in orbital watch winders — specialized winders that keep the watches powered when they are not being worn; five shallow drawers for rings, bracelets and necklaces; and a glass-encased suede jewelry neck form.
She even designed watch storage in the interior of a safe by the Germany company Döttling, which one of her clients later had installed at home.
Her projects, which start at $75,000 for design and installation, always begin the same way: with an inventory of every single item that will go into a space — whether it is a three-story closet or a 10- by 12-foot room.
