Design lovers should recognize familiar forms in the work of Josiah McElheny, a Brooklyn artist who uses a modernist visual vocabulary to explore some of the more head-scratching concepts of the cosmos. Twenty-one pieces have been gathered for his first museum survey in the U.S., mounted by Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art. Highlights include Island Universe, a 2008 installation, shown, which is modeled after Lobmeyr chandeliers and depicts—with scientific accuracy—the big bang theory. “Josiah McElheny: Some Pictures of the Infinite,” June 22–October 14; icaboston.org
