Already the talk at the shows is shifting to London; New York Fashion Week is drawing to a close, but fashion month is just beginning. Gird yourself, won’t you? (We’ll be following it all.)
Before the book closes on NYFW, there are a few things left to see. Here’s what you’ll want to watch for:
• Traffic alert. It takes a lot of clout to shut down a city block, but clout is what Ralph Lauren’s got. The company worked with the mayor’s office to close off Madison Avenue between 71st and 72nd Streets to stage a show of a new fall 2016 collection. Careful fashion week readers may recall that Mr. Lauren already showed a fall 2016 collection back in February, but this new version will be a shoppable one as part of the trend for buy-now, wear-now shows. Suffice it to say, the Ralph Lauren women’s flagship — at 888 Madison, between 71st and 72nd, naturally — will be open afterward for shopping.
• International appeal. The Spanish heritage line Delpozo has seen a revival of interest in recent years under the creative director Josep Font, who designs in Madrid, shows in New York and, as of this summer, has set up shop in England. The brand’s new London boutique opened on Sloane Street earlier this year.
• A dress you’re sure to see on this weekend’s Emmys red carpet. Marchesa, Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig’s label, is a favorite of Hollywood starlets (and not just because Ms. Chapman is married to the producer Harvey Weinstein). It shows this afternoon.
• A lesson in history. Few designers are as well versed in the history of costume and dress as Anna Sui, whose collections make references to everything from Christian Bérard illustrations to Schiaparelli couture to the History channel’s “Vikings” show.
• A ghost (more or less). Gucci throws a (sadly, private) party at its Fifth Avenue flagship for a new collaboration with GucciGhost, a.k.a. Trouble Andrew, a.k.a. Trevor Andrew, a graffiti artist and obsessive Gucci fan whom the company has recently let loose on its collection prints and accessories. The entire facade, the brand promises, has been GucciGhost-ified. Spoooooky!
