The fashion designer-philanthropist has teamed up with renowned perfumer Anne Flipo and architect Zaha Hadid for a powerful new scent, Donna Karan Woman. ($85, 1.7 oz)

Starting with an earthy base of sandalwood and Haitian vetiver, Flipo added contrasting elements to evoke the complexity of the female psyche. “I first thought about everything a woman embodies and then picked notes to match these characteristics,” she explains. Aldehydes and pink pepper top notes add a “whirl of liberty,” while softer florals like jasmine, rose, and violet are a romantic, ultrafeminine touch.

A curving, fluid-seeming container made of ombré charcoal glass, Hadid’s design makes for a shape that is distinctly sexy. “The bottle’s dark, translucent qualities offer a sense of mystery that awakens our curiosity,” the Pritzker Prize winner explains. The vessel, whose sensuous lines echo the bottle that Karan’s late husband, sculptor Stephan Weiss, designed for her 1994 scent Cashmere Mist, is sure to awaken many.
